Our story...
Having found the house, our next adventure was to get it operational, to decorate and furnish it.
The first visits with no heating or hot water were challenging but with some fantastic local people we have made some great progress:
- The heating and hot water have been overhauled with new radiators and a new heat pump.
- The electricity power has been upgraded.
- Decorating continues throughout.
- The shutters are being painted.
- A new sink and dishwasher have been installed.
- Then there are all the little jobs: fixing door handles, taps, hanging pictures, wifi, gardening etc.
We are hugely grateful for all the local help. There is no way we could have achieved half of what we have done without it.
Balcony Project
Our first project was to remove the dangerous existing balcony and install a new one that would match the original design and preserve the original character. We have been lucky to meet and engage with some fantastic local artisan trades men. The new balcony really completes the back elevation of the house and provides a great place to drink coffee in the morning and plan the day ahead.
Swimming Pool Project
The plan to install a swimming pool in the garden was always part of the French dream. However we underestimated the challenge as the garden has no front access so every thing came over the river by crane. The project is ongoing and we are planning to complete the work by the end of 2025. We are extremely grateful for the patience of our neighbours during the installation. It was certainly an event to watch!
Brocante shopping
We enjoy hunting around brocantes, vide greniers, flea markets and bric-a-brac shops. We love finding items to add to the house. One of the reasons we bought the house was to find somewhere to house all these treasures!
